Photo A Day Scrapvillage Challenge

A couple of years ago, one of my quilting buddies sent a picture of her golden retriever, Reggie, in her Christmas card. Reggie was lying in a bed of fall leaves, and he blended in perfectly. His beautiful golden coat shining in the sun, blending with those gorgeous autumn colors. On the back of the picture, she had written “Where’s Waldo?”. That’s exactly what I thought of when I saw this pic of CoCo. She is the same color as the couch. When her head is down, and you can’t see her graying muzzle or her patch of white on her chest, she becomes stealth dog!

Where’s CoCo?

{And yes, this is CoCo’s couch. She shares with us when we want to watch a movie on the big-screen in the living room. Leather is *so* practical for wiping down and removing dog hair. Upholstered furniture just holds onto too much hair!}

Had to wait to post this pic, since it is Ed’s Christmas present. He has this old gun (muzzle-loader?) that was his father’s. I decided to try my hand at woodworking and whip up a shadowbox for him, for this gun. It looks a bit like a high school woodshop project in it’s simplicity, but as I told a friend – it was the first time I’ve used power tools (well, except an electric screwdriver) and I still have all my fingers! Look Ma, no blood!

I used 1 x 6 pine for the frame and plywood for the backing. The backing is wrapped in ivory velvet. That was a “happy accident”. I had intended to use black velvet but could not locate any in town. The ivory was available, and as soon as I saw it, I realized that if I had used black, the gun would have blended right into it. So yippee for the fabric stores not having any black.

Ed unwrapped it this morning and seems to really like it. I suspect he likes the effort more than the actual results. ;) I got him a new table saw for Christmas, too, since he hasn’t had one since we moved from WA. If I had all of that to do over, I never would have let him sell all his tools before we left. He should have kept them all. He is so talented and it is a great creative outlet for him. Like my Dad always says, “Hindsight has 20-20 vision.”

Hmmm, are deer the most interesting things in my life right now? hee hee hee.

This big bunch were all just minding their own business down the street as I was on my way out shopping, so I had to flash a pic, just in case the above is true. ;)

Could it really be mid/late December? It is still SO warm, and those beautiful blue skies are just striking. I’m ready for spring and some color planted back in that space around the base of the palm tree! It looks so bare.

The roses on the fence are still in bloom, and the rest of the plants are still going strong. Why question it. It’s there to enjoy!

Woohoo! I’m on vacation until the January 2, 2007!! I’m SO glad to be home from Chicago, and doubly glad to be officially on vacation! Did I say Woohoo????!

So far, I haven’t done anything particularly exciting, but have been working on a variety of Christmas projects. Here is the first of the Basic Gray trio of stars.

photo-a-day-121706.jpgI think they are really cute and they went together lickety-split. That could be because I didn’t do anything “extra” on them. Just assembled them, added a button on each side to cover the middle hole, and punched a hole in the tip of one of the points (with my Crop-A-Dile!), set an eyelet and strung some silk ribbon through the eyelet. I have them hanging from the dining room chandelier.

Well, I’m cheating a little here. I took this pic earlier in the week, but was so darn lazy today (didn’t take one darn picture all day) that I’m adding Jerry!

This is Jerry – the third part of our training trio! He’s a very cool dude and is also a pharmacy tech by background. He was in the military and spent some time in Germany. He’s a very regimented guy and when Jerry trains you – you know your stuff! He has 2 beautiful daughters and is currently single - know anyone in the Chicago area looking? ;)

That’s Jane in the background, too. She’s an Regional Reimbursement Director. She knows her stuff and is a blast to be on the road with. I worked with her on the Chicago implementation and we’ve kept in touch. It was really nice to get to see her and catch up.

Here is one of my partners in crime – Carey. He lives in Little Rock and flew up to Chicago for the week, too. He’s such a nice guy, very good sense of humor and lots of fun to work with. And I learn lots from him, too! He’s a database wiz. I’d love to know everything he knows in Access!!

Since no one volunteers to get their picture taken, I of course had to trick him for this one.  ;)

Another fun day in Chicago. Some training provided, some arguments over how our online help/training system is structured, and some good general conversations. I hadn’t been to corporate since Feb or March, so it was nice to see a lot of my pals. The new corporate logo is up in the entrance, and there is a tree all decorated for the season. Several people had a ton of ornaments and things hung above their cubicles, too! Very festive and fun!

Today was an early, and looonnng day! I had a 6:40 flight from San Antonio to Chicago for a meeting at corporate. I was up and running around 3:30 to get ready. Thankfully I had actually packed the night before and laid out my clothes for today, so things went pretty smoothly. Ed very generously took me to the airport, so I had a bit more time than usual, too, not having to find parking and make the trek to the terminal. Curb-side service! Can’t beat that at 5AM! The airport is an absolute mess right at the terminal. All of the pavement is torn up in front of the terminal, and they are also building another parking garage. Woohoo! I’m sure it will be nice in a few months.

The last time I flew back from L.A., I saw signs up that the Port of San Antonio has been working on getting all of the birds to roost somewhere else by lighting fireworks in and around the parking garage. Well, it didn’t work because they are back in force. The birds are grackles, I think. When I was working on the beta in Oklahoma City, they struggled with the same issue at one of the malls. They were using fireworks as a deterrent. I can’t remember if that worked or not. (That was 5 years ago, after all!) lol.

So, on the the picture of the day for me. I got several shots of the gang that were training with me, as well as the trainees. Carey was up from Little Rock, also, and we both decided to head to the hotel right after work. I flipped on the boob-tube in my room as I unpacked and what was on?

The Wizard of Oz! I haven’t watched this movie in years! It was definitely a favorite from my childhood. Chrissy and I would get to stay up past our usual (very early) bedtime and get to watch. I can remember being afraid of the Wicked Witch of the West, as well as her flying monkeys. Oooh, and that dark forest was SO scary! How things have changed, huh? If that’s the scariest things kids see now, then parents are doing a great job protecting them. There is way too much blood, gore, and garbage on TV. OK, I’ll get off my soapbox now. hee hee hee.
